Strangers mocked a mother’s stretch marks while she was sunbathing Tuesday at a beach in Edmonton, Canada.

Tanis Jex-Blake, 33, was wearing a bikini for the first time in 13 years after having five children. Her kids were playing nearby.

“All of a sudden I heard, ‘Oh my god, look at that, that’s f—ing nasty, that’s disgusting, look how gross that is,’” Jex-Blake told GlobalNews.

Jex-Blake said two men and a woman were pointing at her and pretending to kick her. She said she acted as if the comments did not hurt her, but later cried.

Instead of wallowing, she went public, posting a photo of her stomach along with a note to Facebook.

“I’m sorry if my first attempt at sun tanning in a bikini in public in 13 years ‘grossed you out,’” she wrote. “I can only hope that one day you’ll realize that my battle scars are something to be proud of, not ashamed of.”

The post went viral with almost 5,000 shares as of Saturday, and a repost by a local radio station garnered more than a quarter million shares and more than a million likes.

NWA ,I agree with you to a large degree but then I thought this issue through ,the true story is that if all people went around making fun of others, heckling them, kicking at them then our world would be one big
brawl with no one even feeling ” safe”. We need to be civilized. Treat others as WE want to be treated. :)

this woman is only doing this for a free mommy makeover because she KNOWS it WILL happen.. someone will OFFER her it for FREE…. I have 5 kids and I am 53… I do not have a mark on me! not all women that have had children have marks like this ( be it one or 10) gives us moms bad names .. shame me if you want.. but this is the way I feel.. I am older and have gained some weight and look better then this.. but I would NEVER wear a bikini in public now myself .. especially if I looked like that! Shame on the people that teased her ( if it really did happen) that WAS wrong… but its like yoga pants.. some women should just NOT wear them.. my 2 cents!! she got the attention she seeked.. if she was proud this would not have gone viral..

I agree that stretch marks are a part of some women’s abdominal area, but I do think that a one piece bathing suit would have been a little more prudent than wearing a bikini. Sometimes we have to face reality that the clothes we once wore in our youth are not appropriate to wear anymore as we mature.

I would have kept my mouth shut, but thought why in the heck is that women wearing a bikini. I am a dude and I don’t wear a speedo for obvious reasons (if you could see me). LOL!

Gary , we do need to use common sense don’t we in life? But your comment about keeping mouth shut and moving on was the bottom line on what should of been done. No harm no foul. :)

Anastasia, I agree with you. Also these people were kicking at her and heckling her. If we all acted that way whenever we wanted to this world would be in total violent uproar, similar to the Middle East.
God gave us minds that can’t be read, mouths that can shut, eyes that can look the other way, heads that can turn the other way, and feet that can leave for a reason. So we don’t offend others at times. Of course I am not referring to when there is an injustice happening. For instance a child, elderly person or animal is being hurt by someone . Then we have something to say and make a stand but people will not always dress as we would like them to. Speak as we would like them too, etcetera. Then we mind our own business in public and move on. Thanks for standing up for her.

This comment is to the cold hearted Sarah who said this woman who was teased was just doing it to get a ” mommy make over” and then bragged about how she had kids and didn’t have stretch marks. First Sarah I am saddened by how cold and uncaring for others this world has become, including you. You bragged about yourself and then talked how you “gained weight” well that will cause a person not to have stretch marks. The fat fills in that area. Then you make up , with no proof that she is just looking for a mommy make over. If you can justify you and others rudeness maybe some day someone will treat you or one of your children with ” rude disrespect” and try to ruin your day. What ever happened to people having the standard of ” live and let live” as long as no one is hurting someone else. These people should of just looked the other way and kept on walking. People should mind there own business. I know people who have been trained in self defense ( yes women too) who could of gotten up and taken them all down. Or who carry and then someone would get hurt or killed and then for what? I am proud of this woman that she is taking a stand against rude and threatening people.
