The driver responsible for Wednesday’s multi-vehicle car crash that killed an elderly man on the North Side is behind bars on $300,000 bond.

Police say 58-year-old Vladimir Tsemekhman  was driving north bound on Sheridan at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at a light at Sheridan and Balmoral.

Tsemekhman then attempted to drive to the right of a CTA bus that was stopped in traffic and fatally struck 71 year-old Frank Kiley.

Kiley was leaving a North Side food pantry and was preparing to load items into the back of his car when he was struck.

Tsemekhman faces numerous charges, including reckless homicide.

Several other people were injured in the chain reaction crash.
