Jogger attacked in Marquette Park neighborhood

Chicago Police issued a community alert after a 19-year-old woman was attacked while jogging in Chicago Lawn early Wednesday morning.

According to police, an aggravated criminal sexual assault incident took place just after midnight on July 30th.

A female jogger was in the area of 6500 S. Artesian in the Marquette Park neighborhood and was approached by an unknown male black offender wearing a black hoodie to conceal his face.

The offender displayed a handgun and forced the woman into a gangway where he sexually assaulted her, according to police.

The man is 5’01-5’03 and weighs between140lbs – 160lbs. He was wearing a black hooded sweater with letters on the front.

Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the offender and warn to never pursue a fleeing assailant, provide the information to the police. Always be aware of your surroundings, remember any unique physical characteristics (scars, limp, acne, teeth, etc…), per police.

If approached by a witness to an incident, request contact information, dial 9-1-1 immediately and remain on scene when possible.
