Illinois Senator Mark Kirk is calling again for the firing of the head of the Hines VA Hospital as he reveals new allegations of mold problems at the facility.

Kirk revealed the allegations after meeting with White House Deputy Chief of Staff Rob Nabors, Hines Director Joan Ricard and hospital whistleblowers.

Kirk said employees have complained about the presence of mold in an operating room that opened in April.

They took pictures of the mold, showing a black spot on the ceiling of the operating room.

The employees at Hines say there is a big problem with water leaking into the brand new operating room.

Germaine Clarno is an employee and a union representative for Hines employees.   She says there has been a long problem of water leaking from the roof of the operating room and water running down the walls.  She claims the problem has been patched and covered up but not fixed.

Kirk has called for the firing of Ricard.

He said Friday he advised her to hire a criminal attorney to handle the FBI investigation he plans to request.

A hospital spokeswoman tells the Sun Times the leaks have been dealt with and mold is no longer present.
