The man who escaped from the Elgin Mental Health Center Wednesday morning is back in custody.

Jesse Vega escaped Wednesday morning in the area of Seneca and Dundee in Elgin.

Authorities in Elgin say a citizen heard a commotion in her backyard this afternoon.  She observed Vega getting into a cab that happened to  be in the area.

The citizen contacted police.

The cab driver was also aware of the alerts on Vega and contacted his dispatch center.

Officers arrived on the scene to find Vega still in the cab.

At that time, police took Vega into custody.

It seems Vega has a troubled past.

He was patient at the Elgin Mental Health Center for the past two months, after a judge deemed him “unfit to stand trail.”

Documents show Vega was arrested back in September of 2013 during a trip to Six Flags. He’s accused, of allegedly beating his girlfriend so bad, her skull was fractured.

Vega is now charged with a felony count of escape.

He’s due in Kane County bond court Thursday morning.
