Illinois lawmakers Tuesday were fine tuning the law legalizing medical marijuana use in the state.

If the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules approves the guidelines, those with last names beginning with letters A through L would be able to apply for medical marijuana use in September and October.

People with last names that start with M through Z could apply in November and December.

Patients for one of 13 medical conditions are eligible to apply.

It's expected to take 30 days for state regulators to approve an application.

Businesses would have six months from the day of approval to get their operations up and running.

Estimated profits are $800 million in the first year alone.
