A police officer from Gary, who was murdered while on duty, was laid to rest Monday.

Officer Jeffrey Westerfield was the father of four girls, about to be married, and a 19 year veteran of the Gary Police Dept.   He was shot in his squad car answering a call Sunday July 6th - his 47th birthday.

Friends, family and those who did not know him but wanted to honor his service, gathered at the Genesis Convention.

Officer Westerfield's motorcycle was placed next to his casket. He loved to ride as much as he loved the job.

Police have a person of interest in custody, but so far no charges have been filed.
