One man’s satirical post of Steven Spielberg on Facebook has gone viral for all the wrong reasons.

A photograph of the famous movie director with a ‘dead’ triceratops has the internet outraged.

WGHP reports that it all started after internet humorist, Jay Branscomb, posted the photo on Facebook with the caption:

“Disgraceful photo of recreational hunter happily posing next to a Triceratops he just slaughtered. Please share so the world can name and shame this despicable man.”

The picture, which was meant to be humorous, has been shared more than 32,000 times, with over 6,000 comments because so many people thought it was real.

Many were outraged by the photo, some calling Spielberg a “disgusting dinosaur hunter.” Check out a few of the other comments:

“Disgraceful. No wonder dinosaurs became extinct. Sickos like this kill every last one of them as soon as they are discovered. He should be in prison.”

“He should be killed instead. Beautiful creature innocently living millions of years ago then this monster comes along.”

“I don’t care who he is, he should not have shot that animal.”

“Steven Spielberg, I’m disappointed in you. I’m not watching any of your movies again ANIMAL KILLER.”

Jay Branscomb followed up the dinosaur picture with another photo of Spielberg posing with a shark. This picture was captioned: “Folks, we need your help identifying the vicious shark-killer shown posing with his illegal prey.”

Ignorance personafied. This is a prime example that we need something to do with our time. A movie prop should not illicit a headhunt. Newsflash dinosaurs are extinct. Lolbvvs

Its an awesome picture but are people truly that clueless? A safari picture? Just because I know Klingon doesn’t mean its a real language with real people. Do we now go out & arrest William Shatner for genocide? Holy crap Batman!! Its a friggin PROP!!

So how many of those 6000 comments from people who thought it was real were actually tongue in cheek? I posted one about how damaging they were in the garden, worse than peacocks, and I for one was glad it was dead. Perhaps that was also construed as thinking it was real?

    • victoria

My thoughts, exactly. None of those comments seem genuine to me. But maybe we are just hoping that humanity possesses a level of humor and intelligence that live up to our standards

  • Jessica

This is Spielberg posing by Tricertop from his first Jurassic Park movie, which if you have seen the movie it was a sick dinosaur….not dead.

    • Carole

Jessica, you do realize that the “sick” dinosaur wasn’t real? That dinosaurs are extinct. Meaning, they are not on this planet anymore, and haven’t been for a few million years.

      • Monkey meat

Carole, do you realize that Jessica said it was from his first movie and nowhere does she suggest it’s real?

  • Berne

OMG dinosaurs are not real we have not had dinosaurs in thousand years, i know this is not real people have nothing better to do with their time than be negative. I think its cool

    • Nagger please

“we have not had dinosaurs in thousand years”

Do you realize that dinosaurs went extinct MILLIONS of years before the first humans appeared?

      • izztranlyn

“Millions years ago”?? But the world is only 2014 years old. Nah, just kidding. It’s sad that there are people who do actually believe that the world is only a couple of thousands years old and not millions+ years old.

  • George Orozco

People are idiots, always jumping to conclusions. Lets look, read and think. Before we call for people’s life.

  • Dave

The scary part is that in a every normal day you will meet a person that thinks dinosaurs still live, unicorns are real, and Canada is a state in the USA. And these people vote too. Very scary.

  • walnutpen52

I also post one but its for joke! and make my friends laugh and I don’t believe people will really believe that the poor guy have killed one, but as I read this article! there are really many morons in this whole wide world! that why we have the two world wars!

  • Craig

Are you aware a very large number of these were written sarcastically? Context seems to get lost when it’s written by people with average grammar.. if anything this shows a small number of animal rights enthusiasts are idiots reacting instantly based on emotion and a large number of people need writing classes. Not worthy of news.

  • Mike Payne

THIS is the “Edumacation” Sarah, Rush, Sean, etc. want your kids to have — ain’t you P R O U D?

And what are you’all talking about “Millions of years” — B L A S P H E M Y, The World is about 6,000 years old, and you know it! You WILL have to account for your beliefs……..

  • wade

Are all of you on the “INTERNET” morons? This is from the movie ‘Jurassic Park’!!!! What idiots!!!!! It’s not even real….

  • ww

Actually, Mike… this ISN’T the education conservatives want you to have… these responses (I realize some are sarcastic, but unfortunately too many aren’t) are a reflection of the EXISTING education system, and that’s run by you leftists, cubby… but hey, thanks for playing.

  • david

what you mean it aint real next you will be telling me that santa aint real and that the bible is real sheehs ppl stop with the disolutions :P

  • tylenn

I will say it gives props to the prop maker lol, if it looks so lifelike people assume it must be real. I would say Job well done crew lol

  • Chris

Welcome to the US, everyone. This is how ridiculous we are…and completely idiotic as a nation. The fact that people actually thought he killed a Dinosaur is laughable – they should be administered an IQ test and put in a remedial school immediately.

  • Tom

Are you sure dinosaurs have been extinct for millions of years? I used to play Dino Crisis on the Play Station and I’m sure that was based on truth.

  • Irene @ Lists-of-Lists

Let’s hope that some of these people commenting were just trying to be funny and they don’t really believe all of this stuff. I agree. I hope that stupid someday becomes extinct as well. But I think there is a fat chance of that happening.

  • Kaye

Waaaahahahaha! All this hoopla over a movie prop! Ridiculous! Serioulsy! How dumb is this?? Dinosaurs are extinct people, what you see there is a prop, A PROP, NOT A REAL ANIMAL. -_-
