A pregnant woman was shot and killed during a drive-by shooting on the Dan Ryan Expressway early Wednesday morning.

Jasmine Curry, 25, was shot in the head as she drove her mini-van in the outbound local lanes of the Ryan near 59th street at about 4 a.m.

Illinois State Police say two other people were inside the van at the time of the shooting.  One passenger fled the scene before police arrived.  The other person in the van was not injured.

Police are not sure if the shots were fired by a passing car or from inside the van.

Curry's family says she had five young children and was five months pregnant.  Her younger brother, Pierce Curry, 17, was also shot and killed last August.

State Police shut down the local outbound lanes of the Ryan from 47th to 59th Streets to investigate the shooting.  Those lanes remained closed through out the morning rush but were opened by the early afternoon.

thanks for posting an insightful comment on how it’s actually the victim’s fault for being shot in the head. you are a good person and not crass and despicable at all.“

As her family member I want to really tell you all about yourself for making such ignorant comments..but I won’t stoop to that level. Where is it written she must be in the house at 4 or any other time of the morning. You better hope your family isn’t faced with this type of tragedy!

It doesn’t matter that she was out @4a.m., it just matters that 5 children r w/o their mother now because of all the senseless killings in Chicago!

If she were on her way to or from work I think they should have mentioned that in the story. If that is not the case she had no business being out at that time of the morning.

The media never ever gives all the details plus it is none of our business. Do you have family or friends? Have you ever gotten a call from someone in need (a ride, emergency, anything) at all times of the night? It is a tragedy all too common in Chicago lately and another victim gets added to the total. Judge not or ye shall be judged! May Jasmine and her baby rest in peace.

Barbara who are you? There are probably thing you had no business doing. Until you have been named God….you have no business judging anyone.
