Gunfire erupted for a half hour in a two block area Sunday, just part of Chicago’s deadly holiday weekend.

On Escanaba, between 80th and 81st, three people were shot: A 25-year-old man was shot in the head, a 19-year-old woman was shot in the thigh and a 47-year-old man was caught in the crossfire while standing on a porch.

During the shootings, a police helicopter was called in to keep an eye from above, while heavily armed tactical officers from across the South Side converged on a small part of the neighborhood.

The motive for last night’s violence is unknown.
