As we celebrate Father’s Day, it’s worth noting not every father owns up to his responsibility.  In Cook County alone, hundreds fail to pay child support, forcing the sheriff’s department to hunt them down.

Sheriff Tom Dart says there are about a thousand warrants in the system for non-payment of child support or DNA testing orders to prove paternity.

Recently, WGN’s Tonya Francisco was allowed exclusive access to the warrant team as it went searching for dead beat dads. A team of six, equipped with a stun gun, a handgun and bulletproof vests recent set out to find 80 delinquent dads who owe $176,000 dollars in child support.

Sheriff Dart says the public can also help in tracking down dead beat dads on their website. It shows all of the outstanding child support warrants and has information on how you can help turn them in.
