* A win tonight would pull the Chicago White Sox back to .500 for the 21st time this season, the most in the majors. (KC and Texas next with 16).

* Only one active manager (Ryne Sandberg of the Phillies with 2,164) appeared in more games as a player than the managers of these two teams. Robin Ventura was in 2,079 games and Brad Ausmus played in 1,971.

* The ninth inning has been great for the White Sox (+14 run differential – best in MLB), but a nightmare for the Tigers (-22 run differential – worst in MLB).

*John Danks is 0-3 with 8.87 ERA in his last four starts against the Tigers.

* Justin Verlander’s struggles in 2014 can likely be tied to a drop in velocity. Verlander’s fastball has dropped in average speed in each of the last five seasons, including a drop of nearly a full mile per hour in each of the last two seasons.

Justin Verlander, Average Fastball Velocity by Season – Since 2009
