Fill in dry, shady spot with a perennial like Bishop’s Caps (Epimedium).

Add beauty to wet soil spots with ligularias, royal fern or sweet flag iris.

Green plants are pretty, but you can liven up shady spots with colorful perennials, like Japanese forest grass (Hakonechloas).

For hot, seldom-watered spots or for really low-maintenance containers, try hardy sedum or sempervivium.
