Man injured in South Side apartment fire

A man was critically injured overnight in a fire at a South Side apartment building.
The fire began at about 1 a.m. in the 6116 S. Richmond Street in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood.
Firefighters say the three-unit building was engulfed in flames when they arrived.
A man was found with burns to his face and lungs.
His family says he ran back into the building to get his elderly mother, but she had already escaped.
Eight other people were displaced from their apartments.

The Red Cross is assisting those residents find a place to live.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
