A Chicago man says he was the victim of a racially motivated hate crime. And has the scars to prove it.

59-year-old John Lloyd claims he came within the width of a blade of being hacked to death Sunday night by a crazed man with a box-cutter in his hand and the n-word on his lips.

“Had he hit me three inches higher, I’d be blind right now,” Lloy said. “He cut me right down to the bone. … Had he hit me three inches lower, with the force that he cut me and kept on going, he would have eventually cut my head off. I’d be dead right now.”

The attack happened just down the block from the entrepreneur’s storefront in the up-and-coming Six Corners business district.

His neighbors say they saw the alleged attacker and another man terrorizing parents and kids along north Milwaukee Avenue. Many called the police.

Chicago police characterize the incident as more of a street fight that got out of hand.

Lloyd was not charged. The other man, 33-year-old Adam Laskowski faces a count of misdemeanor battery.
