A recording of state representative derrick smith, allegedly soliciting a bribe, is expected to be played at his trial today.

Justice Department lawyers say they recorded conversations between Smith and a confidential FBI informant. Smith allegedly believed he was accepting seven thousand dollars from a day care center owner who was looking for a government grant.

The defense team tried to supress the testimony due to the informant’ss 20 arrests and two convictions — calling it entrapment. But the judge has allowed the testimony and the tapes to be heard.
