Police in Hobart, Indiana, are holding a woman for a psychiatric evaluation after a fire in her apartment forced the evacuation of a dozen other units.

It happened Thursday night at the Lake of the Woods apartment complex.

The first firefighters on the scene found the woman’s unit in flames, but she refused to come out.

The woman and several other tenants on the second floor were helped to safety down a maintenance worker’s ladder.

One man was taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation, according to Hobart Fire Chief Robert Ellenberger.

The fire had several points of origin, all within the woman’s apartment.
