Man killed after car plunges into retention pond in Romeoville

A man was killed after his car went into a pond in Romeoville.

The 54-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were in the car when it went into the water near 1400 Bluff Road at about 9 p.m. Thursday.

The woman escaped and called for help.

It took divers more than half an hour to locate the car.

The man could not be revived.

The woman was not seriously injured.

Firefighters say the man may have been teaching the woman how to drive when the car went out of control.
