Authorities are looking for a missing University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign student last seen on May 17.  Police are treating the disappearance as a “non-criminal” matter.

19-year-old Hye Min Choi, who also goes by Joseph, was scheduled to take a flight on United from O’Hare to North Carolina. His mother retrieved his luggage in North Carolina but Choi was not there.

United told police that Choi did not rebook on another United flight.

Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy says Choi was apparently having problems at school.   Police are following up leads on where he might be.  They do not believe it’s a criminal matter.

Choi is 5’6″, 100 lbs., with brown eyes and black hair, with a scar on his right eyelid.

Anyone with information is asked to call Area North Special Victim’s unit at (312) 744-8200.
