A documentary series that was set to feature Micheal Sam, the first openly gay NFL player, has been postponed.

The Oprah Winfrey Network planned to follow Sam’s journey, after being drafted by the St. Louis Rams.

The postponement came after meetings with the team.

Sam’s agent says this will allow him to focus on football and ensure that there are no distractions to his teammates.

The league said it had no knowledge of the project before the draft.

It all feels orchestrated now: the draft-day kiss; the cake-covered face; the tears; the celebration that conveniently captured just Sam, his boyfriend and his two agents; and even the "Stand with Sam" T-shirts selling on michaelsam.com." … I gave Sam the benefit of the doubt until I saw all that on draft day. Forget about it feeling orchestrated NOW, it felt orchestrated RIGHT THEN. It was obvious it was just another scripted reality-show-esque moment designed to generate a profit. The only thing that's changed is more people are catching on to the act. Now, I will say that it's probably in Michael Sam's best interests to do this. The likelihood of a 7th round pick having a long NFL career is slim. So he's smart to take the money while he can, but can we all stop pretending like he's some selfless hero?
