A Bolingbrook couple appears in court today accused of starving their baby girl to death.

Markisha Jones and Gene Edwards face involuntary manslaughter charges after investigations by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and the Barrington Police Department. Police found their seven-month-old daughter Mya Edwards dead in January in the couple’s former Barrington home in the 100 block of South Hager Avenue.

DCFS has investigated the family in the past for neglect and abuse. The state placed the couple’s other child, Mya’s twin sister, in foster care.
