Accused DUI wrong-way driver freed on bond

The man charged in a deadly crash on Lake Shore Drive is free on bond.

23-year-old Erik Johnson, of Lakeview, posted $50,000 cash and met a reduced bond.

Police say Johnson hit an oncoming taxi as he drove drunk on the wrong side of the road.

Last week’s crash killed University of Chicago law student Laura LaPlante.

    Drunk lives and the innocent dies. Isn't that the way it usually goes? Like with the bicyclist in Old Town who was hit by a speeding drunk driver and killed, the drunk gets out on bond and goes on with their lives. Sad.
