Cook County sheriff Tom Dart says investigators have finally cracked a cold case from more than 35 years ago.

It involves a man once believed to be a victim of John Wayne Gacy.

22-year-old Edward Beaudion was killed in 1978 and his body was found in a forest preserve in 2008.

Now, police say his killer was not Gacy but another man, Jerry Jackson of Missouri. Jackson died last year without being charged in Beaudion’s death.

The latest disclosure resulted from the decision by the sheriff’s office to renew its investigation into a total of eight Gacy victims, most of whom remain unidentified.
