The Galactic Empire will have its presence known as Chicago officials try to get Star Wars creator George Lucas to build his new museum there.

Members of the 501st Legion plan to show up at a public meeting held by Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s Museum Task Force at the Chicago Cultural Center.

The legion is a large international organization of Star Wars fans who dress up in authentic costumes.

Emanuel formed a task force to find a way to bring the Lucas Cultural Arts Museum to Chicago after plans in San Francisco fell through.

But for now they’ll be facing an army of stormtroopers who will be at its first public meeting.

City officials say they didn’t invite the stormtroopers, but they won’t be turned away either.

“I’m going to tell my troopers to do whatever the city wants,” said 501st Legion member Brian Troyan. “We’re soldiers on the front lines when it comes to promoting ‘Star Wars.’”

If the mayor and city council are dead set on bringing another museum to Chicago. I think the Lucas Star Wars exhibit is much more desirable than the Obama Presidential museum. First, the Lucas' project iwill not cost a 100 million in exploratory costs and comes with many more advantages.

More importantly , A forty year franchise with R2D2 and C3PO will attract international tourists and locals who will book hotel rooms , transportations ,, restaurants and souvenirs and actually bring cash into our city. The presidential museum will bring a history buffs , school field trips and sell a few t -shirts.
Comic cons are worth their weight in gold. Its a billion dollar industry. This should not be a hard decision since one is much more desirable than the other.

May the Force be with us!!!
