Today is opening day for the Chicago White Sox.
They’ll start their new season when they host the Minnesota Twins at U.S. Cellular this afternoon.
The game starts at 3 p.m.
The Sox lineup features several new faces as they try to rebound from an awful season last year.
Paul Konerko is wrapping up his career this season, but he will not be in the starting lineup Monday.
Konerko decided to come back to the team in the offseason with the understanding that he would not be a full-time starter.
Manager Robin Ventura said Konerko had the option to start on his last opening day, but the White Sox captain turned it down.
“He made it clear this is what he signed up to do,” said Ventura. “It’s more out of respect to him that you’re not just going to put him out there just to put him out there.”
Sox pitcher Chris Sale will play in second consecutive opening day.
