City to relax ban on ex-offenders at CHA housing

The Chicago Housing Authority may once again let ex-convicts move in.

Mayor Emanuel has joined the push to allow a handful of former prisoners to move in with their families at CHA properties.

Neighbors are nervous about having convicted criminals nearby.

But a new pilot project aims to reunify ex-offenders with their families.

Supporters say a stable home environment can help steer people from their criminal past.

The CHA board still needs to approve the new pilot program.
