A former top Cook County official was sentenced Friday to 51 months in prison for bribery and wire fraud.

Eugene Mullins was the chief media spokesman for ex-county board president Todd Stroger.

He will serve a little more than four years behind bars for taking financial kickbacks in return for steering contracts to unqualified friends in 2010.

Stroger was not charged in the case, and denies doing anything wrong.
