How to Restore Antique Hardware

Bring life back to old antique hardware with just a few basic supplies and some patience.


  • Baking Soda or Dish soap
  • Metal pot
  • Burner or crockpot
  • Plastic putty knife
  • Cleaning brush
  • Steel wool
  • Gloves
  • Clear lacquer spray
  • Tongs of Pliers


  1. Heat hardware on low
  2. Scrape with plastic putty knife
  3. Scrub with brush
  4. Put back into pot, repeat steps
  5. Buff with steel wool
  6. Spray with clear lacquer
