Amtrak train strikes vehicle in Berwyn

Amtrak 3An Amtrak passenger train struck a vehicle near Harlem Avenue in Berwyn Thursday afternoon, and that brought some Metra trains to a halt as they use the same BNSF tracks.

The accident happened at about 2:30 p.m..

A woman in her vehicle apparently came to a stop too close to the tracks after the crossing gates came down. Also, she couldn’t back-up because other vehicles were stopped too close to her.

The woman’s condition is unknown.

Mtra trains between Chicago and Aurora were stopped while investigators were on the accident scene.
