Tuesday’s warmer temperatures and sunshine are causing Chicago’s massive snow cap to begin to melt – which has potential to be another massive problem.

City crews are working to prepare streets for potential flooding.

The Office of Emergency Management and Communications and the Department of Water Management say they will send out additional crews to help keep water draining and catch basins clear.

According to a statement from OEMC, the city is also “asking residents to help prevent local flooding by keeping catch basins clear during the thaw, and reminds residents to continue to run a trickle of water to prevent frozen pipes.”
