A teenager is charged with his friend’s murder, even though he didn’t fire the fatal shot.

Three people tried to rob an off-duty Cook County Sheriff’s sergeant at gunpoint Monday evening near 103rd and Cottage Grove.

But the officer pulled his own gun, and shot and killed 16-year-old Deonta Mackey. The entire encounter was captured on surveillance video.

Mackey’s friends ran away; but Devante Graham later turned himself in after seeing the video.

Under Illinois law, because his friend’s death was the result of an intentional criminal act, Graham is blamed for the ensuing shooting.

He is being held on $1 million bond.
