All Chicago-area locations of DeVry University and the Chamberlain College of Nursing are closed today because of a possible security issue.

A message to students and facility posted on DeVry’s website does not specify what type of security issue is forcing the closure. But, the school does confirm that the threat came via email, and says the schools are working closely with local law enforcement officials.

It was not a blind email.  The sender’s name was attached.  The university is not saying whether the sender is a current or former student, or has any ties to DeVry University.

Administrators say they made the decision to close the campuses based on the advice of their security team.

Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy says the Addison Police Department is leading the investigation and the Chicago Police Department is assisting.  An FBI spokesperson says the bureau is aware of the threat and letting local departments handle it.

DeVry has 10 locations in the Chicago area.

There are three Chamberlain locations in Chicago, Addison, and Tinley Park.
