What started as a house fire has turned into a police homicide investigation after a woman’s body was found.
The fire broke out just before 2:00 pm Friday at 45th Place and Rockwell in the city’s Brighton Park neighborhood, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
The fire spread to multiple buildings, 125 firefighters had to be brought in and 40 pieces of equipment to put it out.
The body of an adult female was found inside one of the buildings and she had been stabbed multiple times, according to police sources.
The deputy fire commissioner says it was tough given how cold it is and several fire hydrants weren’t working because they were frozen.
WGN spoke to a neighbor, Oscar, who says the woman who was killed lived there and was a nice lady.
The cause of the fire and death of the woman are both under investigation– the question now is was this homicide a random act or did the victim know her killer, police say it’s just too early to tell.
