An all-girls Catholic high school in the southwest suburbs is closing.
Mount Assisi Academy in suburban Lemont will shut down at the end of the current school year.
School officials made the announcement to parents and students Wednesday night.
Press conference was held this morning by school officials.
The school says declining enrollments and increasing deficits over the last seven years led to the decision. In the 2006-07 school year there were 315 students enrolled, today there are only 100 students.
Facebook page called save Mt. Assisi Academy was set up yesterday and already has 1,800 followers.
A meeting will be held Feb. 5 at the school to discuss the closure and alternatives for students.

i think they should let the girls finish that are currently going there so they dont have to transfer. they want to graduate from their because their families have been attending there for many years. i think they should stay open for atleast a few more years and not take in any more classes

I just saw the report on teh WGN noon report. The report stated that this was the last all-girls high school in the chicago area. I believe that this is wrong. Mother McAuley is still open.

I think Notre Dame HS for girls is still open on the NW side too

I believe it just meant the last very traditional all girls school.

I also heard the reporter on the noon news say that it was the last all girls catholic school in the Chicagoland area. I am a McAuley grad and Mother McAuley and Queen of Peace are still open! It would be nice if reporters could get their facts straight.

I think it’s funny that my daughter was kicked out of school for tuition problems. Although we were going to pay the amount the next day.the principle said it is better if you not come back. Of course this caused my daughter to be depressed. Now their asking for donations.
