Since 1961, the Veal Family in Indianapolis has constructed their annual “ice tree,” although it’s not really a tree at all.

It’s built with branches and 2-by-4’s, and coated with colored water.

The tree is about 60 feet hight, and family legend has it that the sculpture grew to 70 feet tall back in the 1970s.

The Veal family tells WXIN that the extreme cold weather the area has been receiving could take the tree to historic new heights.
