Cook County’s Inspector General is getting approval to investigate county assessor Joe Berrios for corruption.

A judge denied Berrios’ claim that the inspector general has no authority over his office.

The legal fight began when the assessor’s office granted questionable tax breaks for two properties owned by a Berrios employee.

He insisted, the employee paid back the money, and it was none of the inspector general’s business.

The judge disagreed.
