The family of a Chicago Public School student who was killed after a basketball game has filed a lawsuit against CPS, Chicago State University and the city.

17-year-old Tyrone Lawson was shot and killed January 16 of last year, after a game between Morgan Park and Simeon High Schools at Chicago State.

Police say a fight broke out after the game, and the violence spilled outside.

Two men have been charged in the shooting.

The lawsuit claims there was not enough security at the game even though police and CPS knew rival gang members would be there.

How about the victims family? They should have been there to protect him also. Everyone blames the schools, and the lawyers make all the money.

Sue the shooters' families? Why they're just victims themselves. The poor dears were probably raised without fathers because their fathers were killed fighting for our country.

Ok, I am terribly sorry for the loss of a kid as no one should ever have to feel that pain. But, there is nothing that the city, or schools can do about this. The fight went outside, there is no protection on the streets. This is a gang problem, not a school problem. Chicago has gotten way out of control with the gangs. I do not believe, aside from bringing in armed forces and actually declaring war, that there is a fix for the gangs. This is constantly getting worse and unless people, police or armed forces start to take back the streets and removing the problem, we will keep reading about senseless murders like this for a long long time.

Why did you let your child go if you knew there was a threat like this……….no on can protect a child like a parent………try being one

In my opinion ever body was wrong police are to protect and serve. not to protect a kid that had things to hide.and he did an honor studentthat was no angel. I knew him he had a lot to do with his own death. truth be told .it had none thing to do with the game or chicago state!!!!! He was a gang banger, that seen his enemies, and it strimmed from he rest in peace, but a lawsuit want fly who know that was going to happen we are talking about a college campus here.covering wrong with right it never works out….. .sorry to say being honest!!!!!!!!!!!

I am sorry for the family. Go sue the gang. This is not CPS or Chicago State’s fault, but rather the gang’s fault. And families need to be more involved in their children’s lives.

it is not cps or chicago states fault it is the gang bangers fault they shot him not the schools where are the parents in all this mess wanting money now.where they at the game ?where they walking with their son to the vehicle that was taking him home? when the police arrest these guys dont cry how good they are how they where good people.good people dont shoot at each other for the hell of it.hold the people who did it responsible, stop blaming everyone else and be accountable
