A 17-year-old Chicago high school student is hospitalized in serious condition after being shot in the abdomen while waiting for her bus on the Far Southeast Side Monday morning.

The shooting happened around 8 o’clock at a bus stop on East Commercial Avenue at 102nd street, about 50 feet from the victim’s front door.

17-year-old Destiny Colon was waiting for a CTA bus on her way to school at Epic Academy on 82nd and Houston where she is a senior.

Chicago police say it was an armed robbery that went horribly wrong.

Neighbors tell WGN they heard a single gunshot and then saw Destiny go down yelling she had been hit.

A neighbor says her husband was coming home at the time of shooting.  He saw Destiny fall to the ground and then saw a car speed away through an alley.

Destiny’s aunt says, “Our faith is keeping us and our faith is keeping her.  Continue to pray, not only for Destiny, but for the children of this city.”

Destiny is listed in serious condition at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Police say they have no one in custody and they have no description of the suspect.
