A man is dead, a woman is missing and presumed dead and a third person is hospitalized after they all fell into the Chicago River overnight.  Police Marine Unit divers returned to the water this morning to continue recovery efforts.

Chicago Police News Affairs say a 26-year-old man from Minnesota dropped a phone into the water and then he jumped over a fence to go after it.

He fell into the river at 420 E. North Water Street,  just a few hundred feet from Lake Shore Drive in the Streeterville neighborhood.

A 23-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman, who were with the man, tried to help him but they also fell into the water.

Firefighters, police officers and the dive team responded to the scene and were able to pull the two men from the water.

The woman could not be found.

The 26-year-old man was taken to Northwestern Hospital in critical condition. He later died.

The other man is in serious condition at St. Joseph Hospital.
