It’s a new year, and if one of your resolutions is to get fit in 2014, these apps can help you do it.

Free for iOs and Android

There are two reasons I like this app. The first reason is I really like the workout routines that are available in the app for you to follow, and you can also customize your own! The second reason is the gaming aspect of the app — complete a workout and earn points to “level up.” As you climb Fitocracy’s levels, you’ll unlock special challenges or “quests” — for example, a runner might be challenged to yoga. Along with the gaming component comes a social component — challenge others on the app to duels and seek advice from others.

Lose It!

Free for iOs and Android

Even though this app has been around for a long time, it’s definitely worth mentioning. If weight loss is your goal, Lose It! is definitely an app to try. Enter your current weight and your desired weight, and then use the app to tally your calories and exercise. You can even scan the barcode on food items to add it to your food log. I also like the pie chart that breaks down what food groups you’ve eaten from during the day.

7 Minute Workout

Free for iOs and Android

With this app and a free 7 minutes, you can complete a fast and effective workout just about anywhere.  The workout is based on ‘The Scientific 7-Minute Workout’ routine posted in the American College of Sports Medicine’s Health & Fitness Journal. The app shows you how to do each workout movement and keeps you moving with voice prompts and visual cues. And, it’s super easy to use!
