Life-threatening arctic blast settling across the area. Snow/wind/white-out conditions occurring across open areas surrounding Chicago.
O’Hare’s official snowfall tally has reached 11.7″; Midway’s up to 8.4″. JUST IN: Snowfall’s reached 12″ at Crown Point & Merrillville IN & at Beecher; 11″ Michigan city, 10″ Park Ridge, Less than an inch of new snow is to fall northwest of Chicago–but 1-2″ of new snow’s possible in Chicago and as much as 2-7″ addn’l snow from NW Indiana into Mich. Final storm totals: 6-14–locally 16″+ sections of NW Indiana & SW lower Michigan”.
The incoming cold blast is mammoth in scope; wind chill advisories are out for 40 states from Montana to Georgia.. Chicago wind chills are to plunge to -40 to -50 amid gusts to 40 mph Mon AM–then hold all day well into Monday night.
