49-year old Robert E. Williams of Chicago is in jail after passersby tackled him as he robbed the Walgreens at North Avenue & Western Avenue.

The robbery took place just after 3 pm on New Year’s Eve, when Williams implied to the cashier he had a gun and made off with money from the register.  Witnesses tackled him as he fled and held him until police arrived.

During the investigation, police have discovered Williams is allegedly responsible for a number of other robberies, including that of a gas station in the 2800 block of North Ashland Avenue last week.

Williams is set to appear in Central Bond court on Friday.
