Snow, ice make for treacherous New Year’s driving

Driving can be tricky enough on New Year’s Eve,  but when you throw snow and ice into the mix, it can be downright treacherous.

Forecasters say three to six inches of snow could fall overnight into the first day of 2014 before a second wave of lake-effect snow falls on the afternoon of New Year’s Day.

The Illinois Department of Transportation says it will have 370 crews salting and plowing state roads in the six-county metro area.
