The fast-approaching snowstorm is causing some people across the Chicago area to change their New Year’s Eve party plans, while a popular store is moving forward with its orders.

Doolin’s party supply store at Grand and Halsted is enjoying busy sales. It has sold hundreds of balloons, and it brought in extra employees on Tuesday to help fill 5,500 balloons for parties at hotels and restaurants.

The store is tapping into its helium reserves since it is expensive and hard to get. The store was rationed after Labor Day.

“People want to celebrate, no matter what their walk of life, they want to celebrate the New Year, and they can do it in a small way or a big way,” said Chris Doolin, owner of Doolin’s.
