One construction worker was killed, and another was injured overnight after a concrete facade falls on top of them at shopping mall in north suburban Vernon Hills.
The workers were removing bricks and concrete on the outside of the Hawthorn Mall when the facade collapsed.
One of them suffered serious injuries, the other had minor wounds; the two were transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center. One of the injured crew members, 25-year-old male from Palos Park, was later pronounced dead.
The mall was closed at the time and no one else was injured.
The accident is under investigation.
