Vigil held for boy killed in crash; Police searching for suspect

A candlelight vigil for was held for an 11-year-old boy killed during a car chase Saturday.

On Friday, teachers and students at a Morrill  Math and Science on the city’s south side-said goodbye for the holiday break.  Monday afternoon they were back in school but they were saying goodbye to just one student, 11-year-old  Donovan Turnage.

Candles burned  in Donovan’s memory.  He was killed Saturday after a violent crash near 55th and Halstead on the city’s South Side.  Police were chasing a man wanted for carjacking several cars over the weekend when the collision happened.

Donovan’s father who was driving was also hurt but is expected to be physically ok.

The driver police say they were chasing was 34-year-old Rockie Douglas. They say Douglas carjacked two additional cars after Donovan was killed.

Douglas was last seen in this vehicle, a light blue, 4-door 2007 Honda Accord with Illinois license plate X144777, fleeing westbound on Interstate 88.

He is described as white,  6’03″, 275 lbs.  His last listed address is in the 12700 blk. of Major Ave. in Beach Park, Il.

Police are asking that anyone having any information about these incidents or the offender contact police, either by calling 911 or contacting Area Central Detectives at 312-747-8380 or Illinois State Police at 630-241-6800.
