Bail denied for 2 charged in murder of Cook County Sheriff’s officer

Bond has been denied for two men accused of killing a veteran Cook County Sheriff’s Officer are in bond court this morning.

Gage Thornton and Brandon Jackson are both charged with first degree murder and attempted robbery.

A judge has agreed to put them in protective custody.

Police say the two were robbing the daughter of Officer Cuauhtemoc Estrada and her boyfriend at gunpoint on Friday night outside a VFW Hall in Bellwood.

Estrada tried to intervene.

That’s when investigators say Estrada was shot in the chest.

Estrada was a retired marine and a 20-year veteran with the Cook County Sheriff’s police.
