10 west suburban police officer are being let go from the Village of Lyons police department.

This will amount to 40 percent of the department’s police force.

Village of Lyons officials notified them last month that they’ll be laid off two days after Christmas.

The village manager says layoffs have been part of the discussion as village leaders and police union reps try to hammer out a new contract.

The current agreement ends on New Year’s Eve.

The Village Board voted to cut next year’s police budget by a million dollars.
