It’s not a lot of snow this morning, but it is just enough to cause problems on the roads and expressways.

IDOT Communication Center (District 1) is keeping tabs on all expressways and have crews hitting trouble spots as soon as they happen.

Forecast reports snow started falling just after midnight to the west and south of the city.

Plows have been out all night to keeps roads salted. The Illinois Tollway has all 182 of its plows out, IDOT has 375.

But, officials warn drivers that freezing temperatures always cut into the effectiveness of their deicing efforts so slow down and drive defensively.

The IDOT Communication Center called in extra people overnight since this storm coincides with the morning commute.
