Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler returned to practice Thursday, but will miss Monday night’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Coach Marc Trestman ruled Cutler out for Monday after Cutler achieved a significant milestone in his recovery from the sprained left ankle he suffered on Nov. 10.

Cutler had targeted the Cowboys game for his return. Trestman said Cutler was not deflated by failing to achieve that goal.

“Jay is very clear on where he is medically,” Trestman said. “He’s continuing to progress. We’ve been very, very clear that he has got to be released by the doctors before he can play, and he has come to terms with that. He’s a strong-willed and strong-minded guy. He can’t control this decision on Monday other than to continue to work on his rehab.”
